A 1949 Kitchen Design

The tour of this "step-saving" U-shaped kitchen is a wondrous thing to watch. There are some great shots of retro kitchen appliances. There's also a fabulous yellow Formica kitchen table and chairs, a black rotary wall phone, and a way-cool radio above the phone center. You'll even see a yellow Pyrex primary color bowl pass by on one of the rotating shelves in the corner cupboard.

They packed a lot of storage into a relatively small area of this kitchen... there's a bin, drawer, cupboard or hatch for just about everything.

The drawer pulls are fantastic, and the cookbook holder inside the cabinet door is a great idea, but I'm not sure how I feel about the garbage hatch incorporated into the counter top.

Even with all of these "modern" conveniences, the lady of the house (wearing her "functional house dress") doesn't appear to be very enthusiastic as she prepares the evening meal.

It's well worth its 13 minute length; so grab a cup of coffee (or a glass of iced tea) and enjoy this short trip through time.
